How things turned out for her Book Swap and Donation Party

Remember Nikki Leali, the adorable seven year old local librarian we featured back in April to promote her book swap/book donation party? Nikki joined millions of children worldwide the weekend of April 27, to be a part of Global Youth Service Day, and make a difference in her New Orleans community.

This Saturday kids can have fun meeting Kid Chef Eliana, while she signs books and highlights cooking with market fresh ingredients for a tasty and interesting morning.The Times-Picayune called her a “pint-sized culinary phenomenon” and she has been featured on nationally, both in print and on television. NOMA's Studio KIDS! art classes encourage creativity and imagination in students ages 5-12. This week's class is called "Printing Across Cultures" and is inspired by the exhibition: Inventing the Modern World: Decorative Arts at the World's Fairs, 1851-1939. Kids will see how the fairs showcased works from many cultures, sketch their favorite designs in the galleries, then turn sketches into relief prints in the classroom.

Monday, May 20 - WeeHands Part 2: Signing at Play begins Monday May 20 at ZukaBaby!

Long before your baby can speak, she has the ability to understand speech and wants to communicate with you. Most babies are able to sign back to you by the time they are 8-12 months of age. Opa! Greek Festival New Orleans turns 40 this year. All of your favorite foods, drinks, events, and entertainments are back, along with some special surprises. Be on the lookout for veteran festival workers wearing a special button with red ribbons; they were here at the first Greek Festival New Orleans (and probably worked that one, too!). The Athenian Playground is perfect for the kids with facepainting, rock climbing, crafts, inflatables and my family's favorite - canoe rentals! Don't miss the wonderful Greek dancers - they are fun to watch. And be sure to leave with a box (or two or three) of Greek pastries!

Story Time at Magic Box Toys


Weekly story time every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.

Who doesn't like to listen to a good story?

Starting February 27th, Magic Box Toys will host a weekly story time every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Story time is aimed at the 18 month - 3 year old crowd but all are welcome! It will last until 10:30 or longer depending on the kid's attention spans. Since this is a brand new event at the store, they'll be playing it by ear initially to see what works best.

Time for a game or craft after school!

Check out a new fun activity you can add to your after school routine: a stop by Magic Box Toys on Magazine Street for Wacky Wednesdays! 

Starting Feb 27th, kids can enjoy a cool craft and/or fun game day every other Wednesday at the store from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. The staff at Magic Box Toys is so excited to meet your kids and play!
